In the past 24 hours I have watched:
Saw (surprisingly engrossing Se7en-styled thriller)
House of the Flying Daggers (promisingly good until it got to be a bit too sappy of a love story at the end)
Ray (a worthy efffort, superb acting job, but a little repetitive as Ray goes from heroin episodes to adultery to singing to heroin episodes to adultery to singing to heroin episodes...)
I, Robot. (better than I thought it would be)
In the meantime, I've also managed to hang out at the beach for a couple hours of warm bliss. I love the wintertime here.
Yesterday (was it just yesterday??) I went to visit the Convento da Nossa Senhora da Penha in Vila Velha, Espirito Santo. It's reason to convert to catholicism. It's a tiny little chapel on the top of a mountain in the middle of Vitoria, Espirito Santo. I'll post pictures once I load them up. What makes it so remarkable is the fact that there is nothign else on this mountain; just jungly greenery. Then at the top, is this white chapel. Technically it's a convent but as best as I could tell, it wasn't being used by the nuns anymore. The chapel itself is very baroque- COlonial portuguese, just what you'd see in any other 450 year old Brazilian church. For further examples, google the words Ouro Preto Minas Gerais to see what I'm talking about. The views from the chapel itself are breathtaking. Ocean, city and mountains all thrown together. A religious experience in its own right. I promsie to load up pictures once I get the chance.
I'm taking hte bus back to Sao Paulo tomorrow night. 14-15 hrs in a bus.. yipee. THe good news is, it's surprisingly comfortable. More on that later
